Father Pedro The new Abbé Pierre
In Madagascar, this clergyman embodies hope for the poorest. His fight against extreme poverty goes beyond borders: his latest book Resist! “*reminds everyone that there is no fatality.
Seeing the children of the Akamasoa association (“Good friends” in Malagasy) run towards Father Pedro to say a word to him, take his hand, we perceive the aura of this priest who devoted his life to the service of more deprived. His trained commitment on Malagasy soil, thirty-three years ago, enabled him to come to the aid of more than 500,000 people. Since 2013, this 74-year-old Argentinian has been nominated six times for the Nobel Peace Prize. An honor that does not make him lose sight of the essential: “A Nobel is not a but, but it can give the chance to be more impactful in the world. It is certainly a recognition, but we don’t work for it. What these people give me every day, that’s my Nobel Prize.”
