Fundraising For Ship Hospital – A Charitable Floating Hospital
A Ship Hospital for Madagascar’s Isolated Populations
Madagascar Foundation would like to purchase,
and operate a Ship Hospital for the Island Nation
Ultimately the ship will also serve coastal East Africa and the Indian Ocean.
The ship will be called
“PEDRO 1”
The Situation
In Madagascar, nearly 11 million people lack access to even basic health care.
They are plagued by preventable diseases, untreated illnesses, and neglected injuries.
Nearly 70 percent of the people have no access to a hospital or doctor.
Children, teens, adults, and the elderly suffer and die daily from curable or treatable causes including malaria, diarrhea, and pneumonia.
Lack of adequate roads and transportation further exacerbate this problem on the fourth largest island in the world.
The Demonstration
The demonstration of the necessity of a Ship Hospital for Madagascar, was the presence of the “Africa Mercy”, a Ship Hospital (US charitable Foundation) during 2015 and 2016.

The Solution
A dedicated modern Ship Hospital to service the major ports around the island of Madagascar able to intervene quickly on Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya and the Comoros then in the Indian Ocean in general is urgently needed.
More than 60% of Madagascar’s population lives within 100 miles of the coastline, making the ship a practical solution for the majority of the population to access modern health care.
A ship will be a controlled, safe, and clean environment ideally suited for serving these rural patients.
“Pedro I” will be the most efficient platform to deliver a state-of-the-art healthcare.
